How often does a home really need a deep clean?
A realistic deep-cleaning schedule for busy households, homes with pets and the dusty seasons of the northern plains.

“Deep clean” is one of those phrases that means something different to everyone. For us, it’s the work that doesn’t need doing every week but makes a real difference when it’s done: baseboards, door frames, cabinet fronts, light fixtures, grout lines and the tops of things.
Deep clean vs. regular clean
A regular clean keeps up with daily use — counters, sinks, toilets, floors and the dust you can see. A deep clean resets the slow-build areas. The two work together: regular cleaning keeps a deep clean looking good for longer, and a deep clean makes regular cleaning faster.
A simple rule of thumb
- If you have recurring cleaning every week or two: a deep clean once or twice a year
- If you clean yourself and keep up well: every three to four months
- If the home hasn’t had a thorough clean in more than a year: start with one now, then follow one of the schedules above
Homes that need it more often
- Homes with shedding pets — hair works into baseboards, vents and upholstery
- Households with someone who has allergies or asthma
- Homes near gravel roads or active construction
- Anyone with a work-from-home setup and a busy kitchen
A seasonal calendar for the northern plains
Our weather shapes cleaning more than people expect. Here is the rhythm we suggest to clients around Dickinson:
- Late March–April: the big one. Months of closed windows, salt and sand tracked in from the roads, and the furnace running nonstop leave a layer of fine dust everywhere.
- Early summer: a lighter detail clean once the cottonwood fluff and spring winds settle.
- Late October–November: before the holidays and before windows close for the winter. Good time to clean vents and returns before heating season.
- After the holidays: optional, especially if you hosted.
Making it easier
A deep clean of a three-bedroom home is a full day’s work for one person. Splitting it room by room over a few weekends works, as long as you start each room from the top and work down. Or you can leave it to us: our deep cleaning service covers every item above, and recurring clients get a reminder when it’s time.
